Bike Fenders are great. When I used to live in San Diego, there was no need because it never rained or snowed. But now that I am back in Wisconsin, I love them.
Fenders and chain guards are great if you plan on communting.
If you want to show off your bike a little, check out the handmade fenders at woodysfenders.com.
I received a pair for my part in a wedding and they are very cool and I haven't seen many around. Not to mention they look sweet on pretty much any bike.
