In a recent article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the author cited a story on the amount of calories burned by Tour de France Cyclists, Ironman athletes, marathon runners, RAAM racers, and Bunion racers.
The results were:
Female swimmers logging 11 miles per day= 5500 calories
RAAM rider= 17965 calories per day
Male Ironman Triathlete= 10,000 over the race
Marathon= about 36oo
Total calories burned in different races.
1. Tour de France 168,000
2. Running across America Bunion race 340,000
3. Expedition to the South Pole 1,000,000
