The problem of stolen bicycles is not new. Even with expensive locks and GPS sting operations, bicycles continue to get stolen. Another weapon for bicyclists is Karma Army. Through their website, a person can keep track of all of their personal property and serial numbers. More importantly, if a bicycle is stolen, the owner can put out an alert on the website. This alert will allow others to keep an eye out for the bike.
Other strategies that have been successful in the past include monitoring craigslist and getting word of your stolen bike out through bicycle listserves. Also, getting pictures of your bicycle and posting them including using pictures taken at races or trathlons if you forgot to take one yourself.
