There is debate over who invented the first bicycle. Some say French Ernest Michaux, others say German Baron Karl Drais von Sauerbronn.
Michaux is credited with inventing the first modern bicycle pedal and cranks in 1861. von sauerbronn is credited with inventing the "Laufmaschine" or running machine. It was an early bicycle made entirely of wood and had no pedals. A rider would push his feet against the ground to make it go. This reminds me of the Flintstones.
